Rockingham County Public Schools proudly announces that Danielle Matheney, Physical Education Teacher at East Rockingham High School, has been named the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (VAHPERD) High School Teacher of the Year.

This prestigious statewide award recognizes outstanding educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching physical education, promote lifelong wellness, and inspire students to achieve their personal best. Honorees are selected based on their innovative instructional methods, leadership in professional organizations, and positive impact on students and school communities.

Danielle is in her sixth year of teaching at East Rockingham High School, where she fosters a positive, inclusive, and active learning environment that motivates students to lead healthy lives. Her commitment to engaging lessons, creative fitness programming, and teamwork-based instruction exemplifies the best of health and physical education.
