Solar Eclipse

The 2024 solar eclipse is set to occur on April 8th, 2024. RCPS will dismiss students at 1:00 pm. This rare phenomenon occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, casting its shadow on the Earth's surface, temporarily blocking out the sun's light. The path of totality—the area where the sun will be completely obscured by the moon—will stretch from Mexico, through the United States, and up into Canada. Major cities within the path of totality include Dallas, Texas; Indianapolis, Indiana; Cleveland, Ohio; and Buffalo, New York, offering millions of people the chance to witness this remarkable event. The next North American solar eclipse won’t be until 2044, so this presents an excellent opportunity to engage families and students in this scientific phenomenon.
