Street Law is a one semester elective intended to give students an overview of American law and the U.S. legal system. This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of how laws affect their everyday lives, providing a survey of various topics such as the lawmaking process, the criminal justice system, the judicial system, constitutional law, and the legal rights and obligations of citizens. The course is not intended to provide vocational training for a career in any specific law-related field, although students interested in such professions will have the opportunity for career exploration. Students will engage in case studies, written and oral debate, and interviews will law enforcement officers and legal professionals. This elective course is open to students in grades 10-12 at Turner Ashby High School.
