Common Ground

The Rockingham County Public School Board and leadership value respectful and productive community dialogue.

This initiative is intended to develop a framework for dialogue to address challenging issues that affect public education in Rockingham County.

The framework sets the parameters for respectful, solutions-oriented dialogue among our diverse community moving forward.

Insights from community dialogue will be submitted to the RCPS School Board, which is solely responsible for policy development and decision-making on the next steps.

Community Partners

Community partners were welcomed by this sign to the first Community Engagement Forum held at Turner Ashby High School on October 11, 2019. Participants heard from Dr. Oskar Scheikl about the direction of RCPS, enjoyed a locally-grown lunch catered by the TAHS FFA, and then met in small groups to discuss ways to partner to benefit RCPS students. There are literally hundreds of community partnerships in Rockingham County Public Schools. Volunteer Opportunities

Although currently our health and safety guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic prevent volunteers from being in our schools, there will be countless ways to volunteer in RCPS once we are able to fully reopen! From helping out in a PreK to primary grade classroom on a regular basis to going on a field trip to supporting the booster programs at the high school level, there are myriad possibilities for your involvement and gifts of time and effort. This award aims to recognize RCPS employees who go above and beyond in their classrooms and buildings. We look forward to hearing how staff members are inspiring students, parents, pre-service teachers, and classroom volunteers!

RCPS Social Media Use Guidelines

The use of social media in Rockingham County Public Schools, VA (RCPS) is intended to promote constructive and effective communication with and between stakeholders in the school division, our schools, and the community.

The purposes of social media communication may include posts to announce, to inform, to educate, to recognize, to celebrate, to build awareness and understanding, to clarify, to entertain, and to share and promote the mission, vision, goals, programs, and initiatives of RCPS.  Discourse and communication on RCPS social media should be professional, respectful, and pertaining to these goals.

Posts and comments on RCPS social media will be monitored by division staff.  Communication of the following kinds will be prohibited:

  1. Profane, vulgar, or obscene

  2. Libelous, defamatory, derogatory, or name-calling

  3. Discriminatory, hateful, or racist

  4. Threatening or harassing

  5. Commercial endorsements, conducting private commercial transactions or engaging in private business activities

  6. Promoting partisan political views or endorsing political campaigns or candidates

  7. Sharing confidential information about students or staff

  8. Personally naming students without parent permission

  9. Copyright violations

  10. Information that could reasonably compromise individual or public safety

  11. **Comments that are inappropriate for this page or irrelevant to the posted topic **

    Rockingham County Public Schools reserves the right to remove (hide or delete) any posts or comments that violate these guidelines.  Repeated violations of these guidelines may lead to a person being blocked from viewing the RCPS Facebook page.

The Rockingham Educational Foundation, Inc. (REFI) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit tax-exempt philanthropic organization that shares a vision of enhancing education in Rockingham County Public Schools (RCPS). We work to increase private support for educational activities that benefit students and staff and fosters creative approaches to education through early literacy, educational grants, scholarships, the teacher supply depot, and teacher recognition.
