The honors-level of Virginia/U.S. Government is designed to give students an overview of national, state, and local government, as well as the role that individual citizens can play at each level. Students will explore the Constitution, political parties, the three branches of government, civil liberties, and civil rights. Students will develop skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity in order to become responsible citizens of society. Students taking this honors-level class will be expected to defend various positions through writing, discussion, and debate. VA/U.S. Government is a required course for all 12th grade students. Standard, Honors, and AP versions of this course are available.
